Have you ever ordered aquatic plants that end up being too big for your aquarium? Or, are you looking to fully plant your aquascape, but aren’t sure what to get? With so many species and variable information available, it can be difficult to choose the right aquarium plants for your setup. Our Plant Pile bundle contains an assortment of foreground, midground and background plants. You’ll receive live plants for each area of a planted tank that have been curated by our team to fit different aquarium sizes. Learn more about what each Plant Pile bundle contains below!

Why should I have a fully planted aquarium?
Fully planted aquariums provide many great benefits to the overall health of fish tanks. Live aquatic plants provide safe spaces for sensitive or shy tropical fish and shrimp. They also act as natural filtration, absorbing excess elements and nutrients in the water that can be harmful in elevated levels. Aquarium plants also provide oxygen for livestock and beneficial bacteria to thrive.

A Brief Overview of Aquascaping Zones

Foreground Plants

These aquatic plants are positioned front and center in most aquascapes. They are usually short in height and grow low in a horizontal manner for ground coverage. The term foreground plant is basically synonymous with carpeting aquarium plant and includes species like Monte Carlo, Hemianthus callitrichoides ‘Cuba’ (HC), Utricularia graminifolia (UG) and Eleocharis varieties (dwarf hairgrass). In-between plants, like Cryptocoryne parva or Marsilea hirsuta, are great choices for transitioning into the midground.

Midground Plants

The midground section of a planted aquarium is broad and varied, featuring plants of moderate height. Popular choices include shorter stem plants and clump-forming or rosette plants like Cryptocoryne species. It also includes plants attached to hardscape, such as Anubias, Bucephalandra, Java Fern, and various aquatic mosses. Compact stem plants like Hemianthus micranthemoides (pearl weed) and Staurogyne repens are also common choices. Although categorized as stem plants, they do not grow as tall or fast as other stems often planted in the background.

Background Plants

These are the tallest and largest plants in an aquascape, typically planted along the back panel and corners of rimless tanks. They create the lush backdrop for your aquarium. Species like Cyperus helferi, Vallisneria sp. (Jungle Vals), Rotala, and Ludwigia grow long, producing flowing foliage that fills the background and moves gently with the water flow.

Good to have if you've never seen the iTEP exam, but don't rely on it to boost your scores
Format: Paperback
This book is good in that it comes with two practice tests: one in the beginning of the book, one in the end of the book. The grading rubric is helpful too. However, the actual guide part of the book, doesn't help too much with how to improve test scores. What I like least about this guide is that it won't tell you which questions you answered incorrectly on the practice exams. A good test prep guide will tell you what you answered incorrectly, and will tell you what logic to follow to get to the correct answer. In the reading passages, it would be nice to know where I can find evidence to justify the "correct" answer. In the grammar section, it would be nice to know which rule I'm violating. Any test guide should always come with some testing strategies. I.E. If this question is taking up too much time, skip it and go to the next one. This guide lacks simple strategies like that. Simple strategies like that could be useful when incorporated into this guide because there are certain sections on the exam that you can go back to previous questions, but some sections where the "back" button is disabled. Overall, if you've never seen an iTEP exam before, this book is certainly helpful in that it will give you an idea of what you will be testing for. However, this book alone won't help you achieve a score of 6. The table of contents itself will tell you there are only 86 pages of actual content covering test material. That's not enough to cover how to excel in the exam.

Don't buy it
Format: Paperback
It does not prepare for the real test. Using it is absolutely not enough to be approved with good grades. Too expensive for what it offers.
