Baptisia ‘Purple Smoke’ is an upright native perennial featuring clover-like gray-green foliage set against striking charcoal stems. In mid-spring, slightly arching racemes of smoky lavender flowers rise well above the foliage, creating a soft, misty effect that stands out in any garden.
After blooming, the flowers develop into large seedpods that turn black when ripe, adding long-lasting ornamental interest. ‘Purple Smoke’ is a tough, drought-tolerant plant that thrives in dry to average, well-drained acidic soils.
