THE HISTORY BEHIND THE STYLE
The early history of iron mining on Minnesota's Mesabi Range is deeply intertwined with Red Wing Shoe Company. Miners needed tough but comfortable boots that could withstand long days and harsh conditions in northern Minnesota mine pits. Red Wing responded with a boot made of thick leather, an oil-resisting outer sole, speed lacing hooks, and a comfortable cork midsole. The defining characteristic was the double-layered toe cap, designed to protect miners' feet from injury while working with hand tools and heavy machinery. RED WING HERITAGE SIZING GUIDE
Red Wing Heritage boots are built to last a lifetime and crafted to fit like a glove—but they need a little time to get there.
How They Should Fit:
- New boots should feel comfortably snug, not tight
- You should have room to wiggle your toes
- Your heel should stay in place when walking
- The leather will stretch and mold to your feet over the first few weeks of wear
Sizing Tips:
- Most customers find Red Wing boots run true to size
- If you're between sizes, we recommend sizing down for a better fit after break-in
- Women's Heritage boots use women's sizing
