Modern uniform shirt

The Raid Shirt is a new version of a classic shirt. It creates a set with UTP, SFU Mk2, or BDU Mk2 Pants, but it will also work as a stand-alone lightweight shirt for patrol or city activities. The tradition of this type of tactical clothing dates back to the 1940s, but we followed the historical development of these uniforms to prepare a timeless and modern product. The Raid Shirt is made entirely of Polycotton Stretch Ripstop fabric (48% cotton, 50% polyester, 2% elastane), so it's slightly stretchy and allows for greater freedom of movement.

Uncommon in tactical clothing - raglan construction

According to the rule that a uniform shirt is a so-called user's second skin, this model uses a comfortable raglan construction. The sleeves are sewn directly into the collar, so there are no seams on the shoulders, whereas in traditional cuts there is a joining of the material. Often, the straps of the equipment or plate carrier are placed there, which causes discomfort. The raglan construction means that the Raid Shirt worn under the vest does not pinch anywhere. This type of cut is almost non-existent in the uniform industry, although the US Army uses it. The latest American IHWCU (Improved Hot Weather Combat Uniform) uniform has a raglan construction.

Classic pockets with improvements

The Raid Shirt has a total of eight pockets with loops to which you can attach your equipment so as not to lose it during operations. Two classic pockets, sewn at an angle on the chest, fastened with two Canadian buttons. Two mesh pockets inside the shirt: one with a zipper and one open at chest height, for a map or notebook. Just undo one button on the main strip and reach into the pocket.

In addition, there are two slanted pockets on the shoulders, with two fastening options. The comfortable fastening with two small hook & loop fasteners can be blinded if necessary and Canadian buttons can be used. Placing both variants of fastening allows you to wear a shirt, e.g. for green tactics when you want to be as quiet as possible. In addition, in high humidity conditions (e.g. tropical), hook & loop will start to stick less and less over time, and Canadian buttons will work flawlessly. On the zipped shoulder pockets there are also two open, smaller pockets for small items such as a compass. Next to it is a narrow compartment for a pen or pencil.

Progress based on experience

Classic uniform shirts have existed since the Second World War. The most characteristic uniforms made of durable cotton were developed in the 1940s by the US Army and introduced to use as the M42 Parachute Uniform. This pattern evolved during the Vietnam War uniform called TCU (Tropical Combat Uniform). After many years, the next milestone was the introduction of a uniform called BDU (Battle Dress Uniform) throughout the US armed forces. From the end of the 1990s, it was popular to introduce modifications at the request of the soldiers themselves: sewing additional pockets on the shoulders, adding Velcro, etc. Our Raid Shirt is a modern version of these modifications, which were supposed to make the soldier's life easier.

Timex - NEVER stop making this watch
Color: Brown/Green/Tan
This is my 5th or 6th Expedition watch in this model. This is the best watch in the world! Why? I travel a lot and do pro bono work in various foreign countries. This watch is not fancy and you won't have anyone chopping your arm off to get a it vs what will happen to you if you have a Rolex or some fancy-smancy Swiss snob watch. You can have three time zones on this watch because there is the analog and two digital. When i travel I always keep my home time zone in T2, which is set via the international time clock to the second (easy to do). So, if I go to Joberg or Shanghai I can easily switch the analog to the local time and put T1 as the date and digital time. I hope they never stop making this watch. I went to two stores in my town and could not come close to finding it. Timex has gone to these ginchy watches that are useless and cheap. My plan is to buy two more and store them. This watch can take a real beating. I put mine on and almost never take it off. One I had lasted 10 years with two battery changes. My latest one had the dial pin pop out in my hand when I pulled on it..gently. In other cases the menu pins stopped working. In most cases under constant wear they are good for 4 years. I have looked at G-Shocks.... that watch line defines silliness to me. They are too bulky at the wrist. This Timex is simple and awesome.

Would it kill them to put in a manual? Huh?
Color: Brown/Green/Tan
This review is tentative. Good: Attractive, and less cheap looking than expected Indiglo. Enough said. Analog is legible. Decent water resistance. Nostalgic for '80s ana-digi display?? This is no Chronosport, but the layout is nice. Seems accurate so far, but quartz watches mostly are. Bad: Non intuitive setting with no manual. It's frustrating so far. Not entirely sure what the features are at this point. Can I get 24H same time zone digital sync'd w/ analog? FWIW: I replaced the strap immediately with a Maratac. Brown nylon, PVD buckle. Look perfect together, I'm chuffed. I want to like the watch, but it's making it hard.

Guess what? The watch works GREAT!
Color: Brown/Green/Tan
My previous problems with Timex were due to the thousand year battery, combined with a one or two year watchband. So, I buy a watch and wear it for a year or so till the band breaks, then throw it into a drawer and get another. At one time I had four good running watches with junk bands, in my catch all box, in the basement. One was over ten years old and still ticking merrily along! I don't get it! Is Planned Obsolescence becoming the rule of law in worldwide manufacturing organizations? Can't Timex come up with a better class of watchbands, that could match the longevity of their excellent little timekeepers? Maybe! Yes, maybe they have finally done it. My new watch has a band that is made of some kind of nylon, reinforced with, what looks like rutabaga skins, that pretty much insures that the band will last as long as the little ticking machine! Out of the box, the band was remarkably stiff. I had to bend and twist it a lot to make it pliable enough to wear. Then I had a heck of a time trying to get it safely into the band keeper! So I got a scissor and cut a little fabric off the corners on the end of the band. I figured...if the cut off parts start to fray, I can just melt them with some fire and I will be ready for another adventurous expedition to the wilds of adolph's pub! I also noticed that the watch was guaranteed waterproof down to 330 feet. I'll just take their word for that cuz there's no way in hades, I'll let anyone talk me into a trip that far south in a bunch of water! And even if the occasion did present itself, the LAST I would be worrying about, is what time it is! You know? Anyways, now that I have the watch customized to me, I am truly happy! It works well, looks Great and smells like a watch. Yup! I can recommend this gadget to anyone. Stay out of the water though! You never know what may be lurking over there behind that tree! :)

Look elsewhere
Color: Brown/Green/Tan
I have had the identical model watch for almost 20 years. Much like many of the other reviews, the crown fell off when resetting the time to a new time zone. I guess the watch was made a bit more sturdy decades ago and something about the manufacturing process changed. My watch is not easily fixable because the stem itself broke and cannot be repaired; it would need a new stem and crown since the end of the stem is still stuck in the crown. My previous watch kept great time and I found it was relatively easy to program. Because the watch was reliable for so long, I bought another even though it now costs twice as much. The new one was not functional when it arrived. The box the watch came it was damaged because it was sent in an amazon envelope rather than the small Amazon mailing box, although the watch itself seemed fine even though it was dead. I thought it no problem as I have changed the battery a few times on the old watch - the case was held on by four small Phillips head screws. Unfortunately, Timex changed their design and now the case is fastened by far less common triangle head screws. I have precision Phillips screwdrivers for several electronic devices but have nothing with triangle head screws. Of course the one screwdriver that will fit those screws is not sold independently - it is sold in a kit with several other sizes. So, I would have to buy a largely useless kit for the one screwdriver that I would use about every 4-5 years. Timex customer support was responsive but not helpful. Their solutions were to send the watch back to Timex for warranty work which may have taken months as the rep stated it would be sent out of the country, or to go to a local watch repair/jeweler and likely incur a labor charge for a watch that didn't work upon arrival. Based on other reviews, I'd say build quality and the quality control have declined over the years. Be advised; that is what you may be in for if you choose this watch.
