Our Georgia Italian Silk Crepe Maxi Kaftan Dress is a true collector’s piece—an exclusive work of art created only for Pax Philomena, where the spirit of the American Southwest meets the mastery of Italian craftsmanship.

This design begins in Como, Italy, at one of the most revered fashion mills in the world, where master artists hand-paint each motif with extraordinary precision. Inspired by Jean Marie’s deep love of the American Southwest—the vast canyon landscapes, sunlit horizons, and the poetic stillness captured so beautifully in the work of Georgia O’Keeffe—the composition evokes a sense of movement, light, and emotion. Once complete, the original painting is translated onto luxurious silk crepe using advanced digital printing, preserving every brushstroke exactly as it was imagined. It is this rare marriage of hand artistry and modern technique that makes the piece so exceptional—and entirely exclusive to Pax Philomena.

Printed on exquisite Italian silk crepe, the fabric drapes effortlessly with a fluid, flattering movement that feels as beautiful as it looks. Known for its subtle texture and remarkable ability to resist wrinkling, it is the ultimate travel companion—luxurious yet practical, refined yet easy. The sweeping maxi silhouette and adjustable tie waist allow you to wear it your way: relaxed and flowing, or softly defined. Finished with hand-made tassels, each detail speaks to craftsmanship and care.

This is a dress that does more than dress you—it transforms you. You will be noticed when you wear it, not just for its beauty, but for its presence. It has a way of making you feel elevated, distinctive, and entirely yourself.

It belongs somewhere extraordinary. Imagine it catching the ocean breeze at a seaside resort in the Maldives, worn barefoot at sunset, or styled for an elegant evening under the stars. This is the piece you pack when you want to feel unforgettable.

The palette—layers of turquoise, ocean blue, and sun-washed gold—pairs effortlessly with our jewelry. Style it with vivid green Royston turquoise, the luminous blue of Sleeping Beauty stones, or one of our silver or gold malas for a look that feels both curated and effortless.

As with all Pax Philomena pieces, this dress is not mass produced—it is something discovered. An exclusive, art-driven design, created in limited quantities, for the woman who understands the rare pleasure of wearing something truly special.

An essential book on U.S. race and capitalism!
Format: Paperback
One of the most important books on race and capitalism ever written. Such a nuanced study of the California penal system that includes the racist structure of the United States’ criminal justice system, but goes far beyond to analyze how capitalism and profit drive politicians, police, investors, landowners, and working class people—white and Black—to expand the prison system in an age of dropping crime rates. I teach it regularly to undergraduates and graduate students, and it drives fascinating discussions.

Format: Paperback
If anyone has mastered the political economy and geography of prisons in California, it is Ruth Wilson Gilmore in Golden Gulag. Gilmore does a great job of discussing and parceling out the very complex and complicated relationships that exist between capitalism as a system that produces our material world alongside economic crises, and the function of prisons to absorb, manage, relocate and "hide" those very crises in the era of neoliberalism. She also skillfully reminds us over and over that it is black and brown working-class poor communities that bear the brunt of this kind of system that also expresses it's power via white supremacy. I am finding this book very useful and chock-full of interesting information for my current research. People may find the book a difficult read because it loaded with information and technicalities they are unfamiliar with, but these are good reasons to struggle with a text and truly grasp the increasingly intricate processes that determine and guide the world we live in (and the places we may end up locked in!). As Marx said, there is no royal road to science and knowledge.
