This iconic late 1970's or early 1980's Yves Saint Laurent vintage peasant style dress is in a royal blue cotton with black at the yoke and cuffs of the sleeves. YSL was often inspired by other cultures and communities and one of his major themes included dresses like these. His original peasant dresses were in more autumnal shades of burgundy, brown, and earth tones. This one is in a beautiful bold color while still keeping the peasant style. This piece is so well made and we love the short puff sleeves. The dress has an empire waistline and a ruffle at the bottom.
Instead of creating fashion for the idealized version of a woman, or to show off his unique viewpoint, Yves Saint Laurent created clothing for the actual women who would be wearing it. Once you have owned a piece designed by Yves Saint Laurent, you will understand that particular design philosophy!
Made in France.
Excellent condition.
