empowers readers to take their first confident steps toward change
Format: Hardcover
In Drama Free, therapist and bestselling author Nedra Glover Tawwab addresses the emotionally charged dynamics of dysfunctional family relationships with clarity and compassion. Rooted in her experience as a licensed therapist, Tawwab outlines the ways that unhealthy patterns—such as manipulation, enmeshment, neglect, or boundary violations—can shape our adult lives. Through digestible chapters and relatable examples, she encourages readers to recognize harmful dynamics and begin the work of detachment and healing. This is not a textbook, but rather a conversation starter, meant to normalize difficult realizations and introduce healthier ways of engaging with family. The book’s strength lies in its practicality. Tawwab’s tone is warm yet firm, offering readers common-sense strategies for setting boundaries, reducing contact when necessary, and managing guilt associated with stepping away from toxic behaviors. While she does not go into deep psychological theory, her approach is grounded in self-awareness and personal accountability. Readers are encouraged to name their experiences, resist minimization, and begin advocating for themselves—even if that means redefining what family connection should look like. The key takeaway from Drama Free is that peace is a choice, and one we are allowed to make—even when it means going against cultural or familial expectations. Tawwab provides a solid foundation for anyone beginning the journey of healing from family dysfunction. Though the book may not satisfy those looking for an in-depth clinical guide, it offers enough wisdom and structure to empower readers to take their first confident steps toward change. It's an accessible and affirming read that underscores the power of healthy boundaries and self-respect.

Drama Free For Sure!
Format: Kindle
Nedra Glover Tawwab is a New York Times bestselling author, a licensed therapist, and a sought-after relationship expert. This book is a therapeutic and educational tool that addresses how to consciously change behaviors you’d rather not have in relationships, specifically, around your family. For those of us who have delved into the self-help book world, this is an in-depth, thorough refresher, focusing on family dynamics. Nedra’s core belief is that relationships contribute to mental health. They can cause you pain or they heal you. She focuses on taking your relationships seriously and teaches the art of having tough but intentional conversations to create positive change. OR you’ll learn how to sever ties when the relationship is unmanageable. None is more influential than the formative years we’ve had with our family of origin. A lot of people lament that not everything is about the family, but yup, so often it’s true. In childhood, most likely we weren’t allowed to be ourselves, so our true selves started to develop when becoming an adult. Like a butterfly using its colossal strength to break out of its chrysalis, we too must use our emotional colossal strength to break out of our childhood mold in order to fly. We are able to have relationships with family on our terms.

Insightful and Compassionate.
Format: Hardcover
I really love Nedra Glover Tawwab's work. I started with "Set Boundaries, Find Peace" and that opened the gateway to a broader and more helpful healing journey for me. This book, "Drama Fee" was just an evolutionary step in her series and a more in depth dealing with family relationships. The different perspectives for each chapter on how the concept can be applied was/is helpful as it often feels like books of this nature are only telling the black or white way to focus on a relationship. I felt seen and heard that though my familial relationships are unique there are commonalities and in turn ways to approach healing, reconciliation (with oneself and with family), understanding and compassion, to a achieve drama free relationships. As humans we are bread for connection and I appreciate Nedra Glover Tawwab's help in navigating them.
