CHECK OUR SIZING TIPS before you order - you will probably want to get a full size larger than usual.

These are gorgeous, and because they're wingtips, they're a little fun. Reminiscent of early 20th century men’s sport shoes. Constructed in canvas lined with microfiber with removable insoles. The light weight and low heel gives you incredible agility on the dance floor - perfect for dancers of all skill levels.

  • Color: Deep Black Canvas.
  • Sole: The suede-bottom sole is incredibly light and flexible - basically: not made for hiking - and should not be worn on the street.
  • Removable Insoles: Microfiber-covered foam.
  • Weight: Feather-light
  • When you wear these you'll feel like a cat - nimble, surefooted, ready to spring into action - but with the slide- and spin-ability that suede soles give you. They look close enough to a dress shoe to wear with slacks, but act like an athletic sneaker.
  • Item #: 670-BK

SIZING TIPS - (ALL SHOES ARE USA SIZES):
(Our returns show we are right about 90% of the time)

CHECK THE PHOTOS FOR OUR CHART WITH MEASUREMENTS (measurements of the inside of the actual shoe - NOT the measurements of your foot)

We've found - by trying these on countless dancers (plus we monitor returns closely):

  • Narrow width: You will likely fit your regular dress shoe size or 1/2 size up.
  • Medium width: If you are medium width you will likely fit a full size larger - please check the measurements chart.
  • Wide width: These are not recommended for wide width. However, one of our test dancers with extra-wide feet (EEE) who absolutely fell in love with these found he fit 1 full size larger than normal with no heel slippage but had to wear them for awhile before they stretched enough to feel good. He's normally a 9.5 wide and fits a 10.5 in these.

SPECS:

  • The heel is 7/8” so it looks like an ordinary shoe, but because the rest of the shock-absorbing sole is 1/2” your heel is only a little higher than the rest of your foot - which really helps your stability.

ABOUT ARIS ALLEN SWING DANCE SHOES:

Aris Allen is known for making vintage style swing dance shoes and reproduction models that are more authentic equipment for dancing swing than ordinary ballroom shoes or sneakers will ever be. Their philosophy being that your dancing will look more authentic if you wear the same style of shoes the inventors of the dance were wearing. At the very least they feel you should be wearing something comfortable because swing dancing is like running track :)

ABOUT SUEDE SOLES:

  • These are made with suede soles which are wonderful to dance on. The suede on the sole is sewn on so they last longer than most other brands' soles. Important: the suede on the heel is NOT sewn on and may catch on something and start to peel off. Most dancers are familiar with this happening and already own shoe glue - but we've had great success with a hot glue gun. Because of this, these shoes are made for dance floors only. Please do not expect the suede to stay on the heel if you dance on other surfaces.
  • NOTE: Usually we say that suede soles for swing dancers are meant to be worn outside so they get dirty and you can dance faster when they dry to a mirror-like finish. But these are so light that they are almost like slippers - you'll only want to wear them on the dance floor. Most dance floors have plenty of street dust to help with that!
  • If you prefer them less zippy you can dull the “mirror finish” on the bottom by periodically roughing them up with a wire brush.
  • Never wear these in the rain!

      Wobby? Fixable!
Color: Onyx Black, Color: Onyx Black
After a year and half of excellent performance, the platter became more and more wobbly but the readings were consistent. Finally, it was too wobbly and the readings were erratic. There was no obvious way to try to fix it and I couldn't find any help online. I wrote to Greater Goods customer service. While I was awaiting a reply I could barely see that there was a screw inside that appeared to connect to the back right behind the paper label. I pressed on the label, and it broke through to reveal...two screws! I tightened them both and my scale is back in action just like new! It's ready for years of upcoming service. If your unit starts to wobble, it's almost certainly fixable this way. Oh, and Urmila from customer service just reached out and I gave them the good news.

      works great
      Size: EK6002
i've had it for a couple of weeks now, and i will say, it works well. calibration isn't in the instructions, but, if you hit and hold all 4 buttons when you turn it on, after it says hello, it will enter cal mode. pressing unit advances to the next screen, which is the auto shut off time. if you turn off the power, or use all 4 buttons to reset it, it does not seem to save, so you will have to purchase calibration weights in order to change it. after setting the auto shutoff, it then lists the 3000 g, which is the max weight. it seems you can change it, but i haven't tried. the next shows random numbers, seemingly the raw value of the scale sensor, then it goes through asking for a 500g calibration weight, and after that, a 2000g calibration weight. the 1000g weight doesn't seem to be necessary. after calibration, the scale seems to do pretty well with the calibration weights. weighing in the center and in the corners seem to be repeatable, although it may be a little off at the very edges or corners. the mat that goes on top of the scale has a hangover on the left side, which helps keep it in place, but it can slide up and down. using the scale to measure liquid, it seems to refresh quick enough to easily allow you to gauge when to stop, although, it may depend on how quickly you pour. one thing to note, the precision mentioned in the description. this scale is accurate to 0.1g from 0-500g, 0.5g from 501-1000g, and 1g from 1001-3000g. this isn't over the weight range of the scale exactly, but rather over the displayed weight. meaning, if you decided to weigh pour over or something, in something heavy (or a collection of things), if you tare out the weight (zero it out to measure the difference), it will still display the first 500g up to 0.1g accuracy. that makes the 3000g limit of the scale much more useful. lastly, this is a rebranded scale...many make the same scale under a different brand. i can't remember which combination of buttons it was, but if you held 2 buttons at the same time, it would bring up a muted speaker (no sound) icon, even though this scale doesn't have sound to begin with. i'm very happy with this scale. the price was good, and realizing that the 0.1g accuracy works up to 500g after taring is great. i used it to measure the water and ice in my 64 oz yeti, to figure out how much water i was actually drinking (got very close to the limit of 3000g).

Good scale to use while making pour over coffee and other things
      Size: EK6002
So there is one problem that I have found with this unit so far, but only one, it lags in accuracy slightly. I have used the Timemore black mirror for over a year now and I find this scale to be much nicer in everyway with the one exception. It doesn't instantly measure your pour, it needs a second or less after you stop pouring to give an accurate measurement. It's usually about a gram lag and I have gotten used to dealing with it however you should upgrade your sensor to give a faster reading. Now in every other way I prefer this scale to the Timemore which is almost 3 times the price of this scale. This scale is longer with a larger area to work on making it much more comfortable to do a pour over, also this scale has a solid flat surface where the controls are meaning you will not get water into the controls. I have had it happen more than a few times with the Timemore where if some water falls on the area of the timer or tare switch they stop working temporarily. While making a pour over it is a significant problem when that happens, I don't think I will ever have that problem with this unit because there is no area for the water to penetrate. I do wish the controls gave a beep when you activated and if they made the sensor respond more quickly those would be some nice improvements. However in all for the price of this little scale you can't go wrong, I have no idea how long it will hold up as I have used it for about a month. However if it continues on as it has I see it performing well for a long while, thanks for the great scale and even better price.

      Excellent scale in all ways.
      Size: EK6002
I’ve used this identical scale for four years, though with a different brand name on it, still identical, made in China with a friendly “Hello” on the splash screen when you turn it on. After approximately 1,000 uses in four years, it suddenly died one day, lost its mind and became obviously useless. When that happened there was no doubt in my mind that I wanted to replace it with exactly the same scale because I liked the old one so much. The controls are logically laid out, the display is bright, it automatically turns itself off after a few minutes if you forget about it. I’ve tested it with standard weights and it’s precisely accurate. It’s correctly sized for its task (a coffee scale), it’s slim, light, has a removable, washable rubber mat that covers the weighing platform, and is altogether a winner in design and utility, and there’s no reason to change anything about it. When this one fails, I’ll be happy enough to buy another. It costs twenty bucks . . .

      Simple, does the trick.
      Size: EK6002
It's a simple, basic scale. Lightweight, it's easy to move from where I stash it to where I use it for measuring coffee. The unit of measure holds it setting when you turn it off, which is nice. I use it in grams for coffee, which is 95% of my use. I acquired a big bag of coffee (5lbs or so) which I broke down into smaller vacuum-packed bags for storage, measured out at 180g each. The scale mostly performed like a champ, although it drifted off zero twice between during bags. Simply shutting restarting the scale got it back on track. It works for me, if you're a hardcore candy maker or baker, you may want a higher quality unit.
