Features

At the first glance, the Hatka 12L may look like just a roll-top bag with shoulder straps, but there is actually a lot going on when you take a closer look. "Hatka" is a peculiar Finnish word used solely in the phrase "ottaa hatkat" which means "to escape" or "hastily take your leave". The pack was created for a special military load-carrying system, as a small daypack that could easily be attached to a larger backpack. A quick-detachable escape-and-evade sort of survival pack, so you now know how this peculiar name makes perfect sense.

Inside, you’ll find one large compartment and two long compartments. The D-ring at the top offers a point for securing small valuables. The large external compartment against your back is big enough for a hydration reservoir or tarp.

Hatka is in many ways a spiritual successor of the venerable Savotta 202 daypack. It too features very rudimentary 25 mm webbing shoulder straps that are attached to D-rings. These can also be set as a single diagonal shoulder strap. This cuts down weight and bulk, which is great when carrying it strapped to a larger pack. If needed, you can easily replace these with more advanced padded options.

Use

Clip and strap Hatka on a larger pack to be used as a "grab-and-go" daypack. This can be done by stuffing it under the lid or by using pack straps. However, the really awesome way is to attach Hatka to the side compression or lid straps by using G-hooks or PALS-mounted SR buckles.

On the outside, you have four PALS webbing rows. These can be used to attach pouches, bungee cords, and buckles for quickly attaching/detaching the Hatka to a larger backpack. The four webbing loops on the bottom can be used for elastic cords, allowing you to carry stuff beneath the pack.

Although there are not too many compartments here, you can still make great use of these when you pack them smartly. The main compartment is of course where you stuff your bigger things, the two small internal compartments can fit all sorts of small stuff and even water bottles. The D-ring can be used to clip on or tie small valuables securely in place. The external compartment against your back can be used to carry a closed cell foam pad as a frame sheet, or a tarp or a hydration bladder.

Excellent toy for play
My dog would play all day if I threw the ball to him. He loves this even though he's 12. The scooped end allows you to pick up the ball without touching it. After a few runs it's covered in dog slobber. So that's a major plus for me! Also, some health issues affect my walking and bending at times. This helps with the bending. This is a great game to play with your favorite friend!

Your high-energy dog will love it!
Why did I wait so long to get one of these?!? I am the stereotypical throws-like-a-girl person, and my dog really needs to have an option that forces her to run far and fast. This is it. I can get that ball half a soccer field away at a minimum if I want. The ball is super bouncy, which adds an element of fun to her attempts to tame it and bring it back. Super worth the money (which wasn't much!). I've never had one of these before, so can't compare to the non-folding version. This one is easy to carry and fits in a drawer for storrage. No way you can fit it in a pocket, especially if you have a phone in one and dog treats in the other.

Great usability
I prefer this version over the non-foldable stick, as this one I can fit into my bag and carry it out easily. Great size and has a locking feature to prevent it from folding up when throwing. Highly recommend, my dogs love fetch and it is hard to chew if they get their hands on it.

Almost Perfect
If you’ve ever seen these things, the foldable ones are just as good as the standard ones. I just wish when you folded it up there was a way to lock it into that position. When you unfold it to play, you lock it into place with the orange locking slide so it doesn’t fold up on you. But when you’re done playing and fold it up, there’s no way to lock it into that position, it can keep unfolding if you carry it around with you, plus the orange locking slide keeps sliding up and down. It’s not a huge deal, but they could’ve made it better.
