An evergreen native of the Cascade Mountains and Coast Range from Washington to NW California. Growth is slow to medium, forming a symmetrical pyramid to narrow tree, growing up to 2 feet per year. Needles are blue green to medium green and are soft and very fragrant. 

One of the most poplar Christmas trees in the West. Noble Fir likes cool dry summers, well drained soils and good air circulation that is generally found above 1000 foot elevation.  Will grow to 50-100 feet tall or taller in the wild. Noble fir wood is prized for it's quality and strength. Trees planted at lower elevations will usually only live for 10-12 years, enough time to grow a 6-12 foot Christmas tree. Does not like to grow in containers for long periods of time.
Hardy to USDA Zone 5.  Needs at least 4 hours of direct sunlight a day.

Noble fir seeds are a food source for birds and squirrels while providing cover and wind protection for wildlife.

Memories of the Camino

First off, I have to say that my husband and I know Angela, the author. We met her because she is a neighbor of my sister, living in Hawaii. We discovered that she planned to walk the Camino de Santiago de Compostela the same year we were (2016) ! On a visit to Hawaii, we met with Angela and did a little local hike together. She was so enthusiastic and had prepared well. We, too, had been reading up and watching videos, getting suggestions as to what to bring, how to deal with physical issues and weather, what to pack and what not to pack, etc. Still, for anyone doing the Camino - whether the WHOLE 500 miles or doing the required 100 km to get the certificate at the final destination: Santiago de Compostela, Spain - it is a very personal endeavor. Reading Angela Leslee's book gives you the personal story of her "camino," and it is captivating. The changes that take place in her life - the discoveries she makes, the people she meets, the failures she feels, the fears, the habits that get broken (such as food choices!) - all make for an adventure that is life-changing and an interesting read. For anyone considering this pilgrimage, because that's what it is, this book will inspire you. You don't need to be part of a "group." You don't need a lot of plans. You do need to be prepared to be changed. The memory for myself and my husband is that it is the best shared experience we have had together in our 50 years of marriage! Angela's book brought back so many wonderful memories for us. I highly recommend this book.
