You can tailor the size and composition of each piece on your kit, or import your own libraries

With its 22" bass drum, life-size digital snare and ride triggers, and Prismatic Sound Modeling engine, the Roland TD-50KVX kit blurs the lines between traditional acoustic drums and cutting-edge modern electronics. Drums and cymbals are presented in stunning high resolution, with a level of expressiveness that even past V-Drums have been unable to touch. You can tailor the size and composition of each piece on your kit, or import your own libraries via SDHC cards. Then season to taste with onboard room reverb, compression, saturation, and EQ. You can even save snapshots of your kits to A/B any changes you make before committing.

On the pad side, the Roland TD-50KVX's one-up/two-down tom configuration is a fresh change for modern players. As are the digital 14" snare pad and 18" ride pad with multi-sensor technology. Together with the TD-50 module, these give the kit unprecedented realism that is sure to make acoustic players feel right at home.

Roland V-Drums are the undisputed kings of digital drum shaping. And with the TD-50KVX's Prismatic Sound Modeling engine, you can expect nuance and realism like never before. The TD-50KVX's every onboard kit is crafted to sound great without tweaks. But for those times when you need a custom kit for a particular performance, Prismatic Sound Modeling has you covered. You have control over each drum shell's thickness and overtones. Each cymbal's size and thickness. You can even control virtual mic placement to dial in the right amount of natural ambience. Once you've found your sound, sweeten kick, snare, or toms with 30 types of built-in FX, including smooth multiband compression and saturation.

The heart of any modern drum kit, acoustic or electronic, is the snare drum. So it makes sense that the TD-50KVX should include a snare pad that's as sophisticated as its sound module: the 14" Roland PD-140DS. Eight sensors across the head and rim accurately translate your performance to your V-Drums brain. This means fat backbeats, cutting rimshots, delicate ghost notes and brush sweeps, and natural cross-sticks that connect every time. And because of its 14" diameter, the Roland PD-140DS transitions seamlessly between your acoustic kit and back. Tuning is easy with the PD-140DS's 8-lug design and 3-ply mesh head make it easy to dial in whatever level of tightness or sponginess you desire.

Electronic cymbals have a reputation for being utilitarian - a means to end. But the Roland CY-18DR invites players to bring their acoustic touch back to their eKit. This 18" V-Cymbal sways and plays like a real cymbal. Multiple sensors across the playing surface eliminate the feeling of zones - distinct edge, bow, and bell tones melt into one another seamlessly. And the Roland CY-18DR's multi-touch technology not only lets you choke crash attacks with your hand, but also even soften cymbal attacks with a finger's touch. If you have trouble getting the full emotion of a performance to translate through traditional eCymbals, we recommends putting the Roland CY-18DR V-Cymbal digital ride through its paces. You won't be disappointed.

The KD-220, with its 22" maple shell and air-damper mechanics, really feels like you're playing an acoustic kick drum. Of course, it looks the part, too. Advanced triggering within the shell helps transmit every stroke and double with minimal risk of false triggering or machine-gunning. Meanwhile, adjustable/retractable rugged spurs reduce movement on carpet, wood, or concrete.

Whether you're modeling your acoustic kit or copping the latest Slate samples, Roland makes it easy to incorporate these sounds into your V-Drums TD-50 sound module. High-capacity SDHC cards let you create an arsenal of custom libraries and call them up on your V-Drums at will.

You can edit the Roland V-Drums TD-50 module without committing. Use the Snapshot feature to quickly A/B the before and after. And if you like what you've done, save it. If not, scrap it and start over.

With its sophisticated brushed black finish to its expressive kit sounds, the TD-50 is built for the stage. But you may be surprised to learn what a difference the TD-50 can make to your practice hours. Jam along to the TD-50's built-in metronome to practice septuplets and strengthen your internal click. Or loop a groove and solo over it to build your lick vocabulary. What's neat is you can record yourself playing to a click or backing track right onto an SDHC card. This is a handy way to track ideas and share with bandmates.

The versatility of the TD-50 is fully seen in its flexible in and outs. Send drum kits pre-mixed to your FOH engineer using balanced stereo XLR outs, or directly into your home stereo speaker system with unbalanced stereo 1/4" outs. And if you've got mixer channels to spare, send your kick, snare, toms, and cymbals separately via balanced 1/4" direct outs for individual treatment and level control. MIDI in/out even lets you track your performance and replace sounds at a later time.

These drums eDrums are fantastic for home recording. And with the Roland V-Drum TD-50 module, you can do it all over USB — no interface required. You get your 10 main output channels in glorious 96kHz. This means you can enjoy studiophile drum recording, even in your apartment, at any time of day.

A fine performance
Format: Paperback
You see an old pocket knife on the cover, maybe a Case; it may have even belonged to Jesse Graves, but he has certainly used it in sculpting his poetry. "Tennessee Landscape" is pure plain speech, and all the more evocative for it. Graves uses language not to shock, not incite and not to transgress; he uses it to bring home simple and time worn truths that never go away. In the poem that is the book's title, Graves recounts his family history and ends telling us "The dead move through us at their will, their voices chime/just beyond our hearing...alone in the field, and never alone." He pays homage to a farming tool"(Elegy for a Hay Rake), not with a tone of jaundiced cynicism, speaking to it instead in a voice filled with thanks and appreciation, as if the hay rake, too, knew how worthwhile its job had been. The second part of the volume expands Graves' geography from East Tennessee to New Orleans, North Carolina, points beyond, and the cast of subjects becomes a little broader as well, but the language remains firm and precise. "The Night Cafe: North Rendon, New Orleans": diction so perfect I feel I was there that night too. "My Sister at Sea": likely my favorite here. It feels personal, a short glimpse into a private heart; the glimpse is snatched away in a hurry but not before Graves tells us "...wishing I could bring/ you to this shore...Make your illness a small boat we could burn/Sailing out in ashes on the current." Whether it is a landscape, a hay rake, a bar or a loved one, Jesse Graves is a poet of things that last, one who writes quiet confessions with confidence in a spare quiet and sure voice. Very highly recommend this book.

Fine Contemporary Poetry--Just Happens to Be Appalachian
Format: Paperback
The poems in Jesse Graves' TENNESSEE LANDSCAPE WITH BLIGHTED PINE express an indebtedness to a way of life that we contemporary Appalachians have watched transform at an accelerated pace over the past few decades, as we see the beloved old ways of our culture adapt to the demands of a society marked with the pervasiveness of media, the incursion of corporate demands, and the poignant recognition that as much as family prepares us to face the world outside our community, the impact of that world can blur the impressions our homes have made on us. Graves' work approaches these themes from various directions, as a son looking to the legacy of his family, as a youth and young man balancing education--both formal and that gleaned from personal experience--and as a family man weighing what he shares and offers in embodying those values. In this consistently fine volume, it is difficult to select favorites, but there are "River Gods," where an inebriated student and his companion cross the high railway trestle over the Tennessee River in Knoxville, Tennessee, "Deep Corner," where the speaker contemplates how his life has turned out differently than his brother's, "Mother's Milk," where the speaker weighs how much his mother has contributed to his life (including, sweetly, "an ear for slightly off-pitch singing"), and "Digging the Pond," where the speaker and his father silently acknowledge that the son will not preserve all his father's values: . . . I stood off to the side too often to learn what he was born knowing. The doing and the undoing. I can find in his face what he reads about the future in the tea-colored water, his eyes and mine trying to avoid it. Graves' love for these gifts, those accepted and those only acknowledged, resonates throughout TENNESSEE LANDSCAPE WITH BLIGHTED PINE. Graves' appreciation for lyric poetry, his talent for finding the expressiveness of everyday language, and his offering scenes with great depth of meaning and feeling make this collection memorable, worthy of high recommendation.

Extraordinary Journey
Format: Paperback
Jesse Graves conducts the reader on an intimate journey from childhood to manhood. Rooted deep in the rich red clay of East Tennessee, the narrative provides fresh insights about the ties of land and family. "Johnson's Ground" describes an annual homecoming at the family cemetery: "they never let us go, even the ones/Laid under before our births continue to make their claims." The poems express both nostalgia for the past as well as forward-looking hopes for a fresh life in the future. Daughter, Chloe often becomes a bridge from present to past as in "Water Washing Away": "A fair price for the vision of a girl/ who has warped the ancient spell of time,/ who has turned back my eyes." Tennessee Landscape with Blighted Pine is an enchanting read for poet and non-poet alike.

Go Read Art Smith or Charles Wright
Format: Paperback
This book is clearly the case of someone steeped in a lyric tradition, but, rather than engaging in the self-reflexive structure of the tradition, is interested in describing ad nauseum, his southern experience. While there are moments in the book that tend toward the sublime, it rests largely as self-indulgent in a way antithetical to the form it chooses.

Dr. G.
Format: Paperback
Jesse Graves (a.k.a. "Dr. G.") is one of my professors at East Tennessee State University. Not only is he a great teacher, he is a very talented poet. I would recommend his work to anyone! Anyone that does not like his work probably just failed his class. :p
