Vicks Plant is a rare succulent part of the mint family. Packed with essential oils, its leaves offer a natural solution for respiratory issues. With a minty scent reminiscent of menthol (just like Vick's Vapor Rub), simply crushing a few leaves and inhaling deeply can help clear airways and improve breathing. You can also create a therapeutic herbal steam by adding crushed leaves to boiling water. Beyond its health perks, the Vicks plant is a visually striking addition to your home, boasting lush green leaves and vibrant purple flowers. It's easy to care for, thriving in well-drained soil and partial shade with regular watering and fertilization to keep it healthy and beneficial.
When can I start harvesting leaves? Leaves can be harvested right away. But I recommend allowing this starter plant to grow a little bit larger.
Growing Conditions
USDA Hardiness Zones: 9-11
Does not like temperatures below 40F.
Perennial succulent
Sun: Partial shade
Soil: Everything grows best in soil that is heavy in composted organic matter. This plant is usually grown in containers and treated like a house plant.
Water: Monitor young plants and keep consistent water. Once established, the can survive periods of drought.
Fertilizer: Not really necessary for mature plants, but for young/smaller plants I recommend mixing in blood meal into the planting hole which is high in nitrogen and promotes lush leafy growth.
