Hedychium coronarium, commonly called white garland ginger lily, is a rhizomatous tender perennial that may grow to 10 tall in its native habitat, but more typically grows 3-6 tall. Features large, lance-shaped, medium green leaves upto 24 long & 5 wide. Fragrant white flowers in dense elliptical racemes (4-8 long) in late summer to early fall. Individual flowers purportedly resemble butterflies, hence the sometimes used common name of butterfly ginger for this species.

The flowers of butterfly ginger lily attract hummingbirds and other pollinators and also make beautiful cut flowers.

Hedychium Coronarium bulbs yield fragrant white blooms, commonly utilized in garlands and perfumery. This esteemed ginger lily flowers from July to October in plains and from August to November in hilly regions. Plant bulbs between February and April in plains, or March to May in hills.

Environment
