The Easton MAV X intermediate set is specifically designed for ages 13-15 and works perfectly for most middle school and early high school catchers. The 16" chest protector and 15.5" leg guards provide appropriate coverage for this age group. If your player is smaller or younger (9-12), consider the youth catcher's gear set. If they're 15+ or have reached full adult size, the adult set may be more appropriate.

Yes! The Easton MAV X intermediate set features full NOCSAE certification on the helmet and the chest protector meets NOCSAE Commotio Cordis standards. This certification ensures the gear meets all safety requirements for middle school, junior high, and high school baseball programs. NOCSAE is the National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment, and their certification is widely recognized and required by most scholastic baseball organizations.

The Multi-Hinge Pro™ system is especially beneficial for younger, developing catchers because it mimics natural knee joint movement, making it easier to get into proper blocking position and maintain mobility. This technology helps intermediate players develop good catching mechanics without being restricted by stiff, inflexible leg guards. The enhanced range of motion reduces fatigue during long games and practices, which is crucial for players still building strength and endurance.

Each Easton MAV X intermediate box set includes a complete three-piece catcher's kit: one catcher's helmet (Large 7 1/8 - 7 1/2) with Hyperlite mask and Biodri™ liner, one 16" chest protector with Locked-In harness and steel waist clips, and one pair of 15.5" leg guards with Multi-Hinge Pro™ system. All components are sized specifically for intermediate players (ages 13-15) and color-coordinated. Note: catcher's mitt sold separately - browse our catchers mitts collection.

The MAV X is among the lightest intermediate catcher's sets available, thanks to the Hyperlite alloy mask and streamlined construction. The lightweight design is particularly important for intermediate players who may not have developed full upper body strength yet. Lighter gear means less fatigue, better mobility, and the ability to maintain proper form throughout longer games. Despite being lightweight, the MAV X doesn't sacrifice protection - it still meets all NOCSAE safety standards.

The MAV X intermediate set offers excellent adjustability to accommodate growth during the 13-15 age range. The adjustable shoulder cap, elastic waist straps, and removable pads allow you to customize the fit as your player grows. The chest protector's Locked-In harness and steel waist clips can be adjusted for height and torso length changes. However, once a player outgrows the intermediate sizing (typically around age 15-16 or when they reach full adult size), it's time to upgrade to the adult set for proper protection.

Proper maintenance extends gear life: air-dry all components after each use to prevent moisture buildup, odor, and bacteria growth. The removable forehead pad can be hand-washed with mild soap and water, then air-dried completely. Wipe down the helmet shell and Hyperlite mask with a damp cloth. For the chest protector and leg guards, spot-clean with mild soap and water - never machine wash or submerge. The Biodri™ liner works best when kept clean and dry between uses. Store gear in a ventilated area, not in enclosed bags where moisture can't escape.
