Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT MAKES THE WILDERNESS TENT A HEAVY-DUTY TENT?

Heavy-duty canvas tents are known for their durability and resilience, making them suitable for various outdoor activities, including camping, hunting, and long-term shelter. Below are some Wilderness tent characteristics that make our Wilderness the best heavy-duty canvas tent available.

  1. Material: Wilderness heavy-duty outdoor tents are made from ARMY DUCK-DOUBLE FILL CANVAS - the highest quality canvas made..

Our canvas strength and quality are second to none. Click to view my canvas strength video where I tie a rope loop to the eave D ring, and then I stand on it. I put 200 lbs of pressure on the Wilderness heavy-duty tent canvas. The Wilderness is an exceptionally strong and durable heavy-duty camping tent.

    • VIEW 50 TENT PICTURES. Some of the tent photos have 1 foot of snow on the roof without a frame to support the roof. There are very few heavy-duty outdoor tents that can withstand such a snow load without a frame supporting the roof.
  2. HEAVY-DUTY TENT DESIGN:

    • I designed the Wilderness to be the strongest, most reinforced, and the best heavy-duty camping tent available. — Rich, Owner.
    • Double layer of canvas on the tent ridge.
    • Webbing reinforcement on the eave. Most tents have canvas eaves that are not as strong as eaves reinforced with webbing.
    • D rings sewn into the eave webbing. Most heavy-duty camping tents have grommets pressed into the canvas. This is a weak point. Grommets are easily pulled out of the canvas.
    • Reinforced ridge ends with multiple layers of canvas.
    • Reinforced 4 wall corners with multiple layers of canvas.
  3. Breathability: Despite being heavy-duty, the Wilderness heavy tent canvas is breathable, allowing air circulation. This helps in reducing condensation inside the tent, making it more comfortable for extended stays. Synthetic tents do not breathe, and condensation will occur. Condensation will be even worse if a propane stove is used.
  4. Frame: Wilderness tent has a frame option of a sturdy steel conduit frame. The frame design is crucial for supporting the weight of the heavy tent canvas and providing a very sturdy tent in various weather conditions.
  5. Zippers and Fastenings: Wilderness heavy-duty canvas tent zippers and fasteners are designed to withstand frequent use and resist wear and tear. The Wilderness heavy-duty tents’ zippers are YKK # 10, and other fasteners are also YKK. These zippers and fasteners are heavy-duty as well.
  6. Water Resistance: While canvas itself is naturally water-resistant, the Wilderness tents are treated for water resistance using marine-grade water treatment. This treatment provides a barrier to prevent water penetration. It also enhances the waterproofing of the heavy-duty camping tent.
  7. Durability: These heavy-duty outdoor tents are designed to withstand harsh weather conditions, including rain, wind, snow, sleet, and UV exposure. The material is thicker and more rugged than that of standard canvas. On our customer testimonial page, there are several images showing a tree falling on the Wilderness tent. The frame was totally destroyed, but there was not a tear anywhere in the canvas. A testament showing this is one tough, heavy-duty tent.
  8. Weight: Wilderness heavy-duty canvas tents are heavier than lightweight camping tents. Lightweight camping tents use lighter canvas or a synthetic material, and they are not as strong or as durable.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN A HEAVY-DUTY CANVAS TENT AND A STANDARD TENT?

Heavy-duty canvas tents and standard canvas tents serve different purposes and are designed to meet specific needs. Benefits and advantages are explained below.

  1. Durability:

    1. Heavy-Duty Canvas Tent: Constructed with thicker and more robust materials. Heavy-duty canvas tents are built to withstand harsh weather conditions, including strong winds, heavy rain, and snow.
    2. Standard Canvas Tent: While standard canvas tents are durable, they are not as rugged as heavy-duty tents. They are suitable for moderate weather conditions and will not hold up as well as a heavy-duty camping tent in extreme environments.
  2. Longevity:

    • Heavy-Duty Canvas Tent: Due to their reinforced construction, they will have a longer lifespan. They are well-suited for frequent use and extended camping trips. The Wilderness is one of the best heavy-duty canvas tents for camping available.
    • Standard Canvas Tent: Standard canvas tents are durable but will not last as long under continuous heavy use or in challenging weather conditions.

Weather Resistance:

  • Heavy-Duty Canvas Tent: Designed to handle extreme weather, heavy-duty tents often feature additional waterproofing treatments, reinforced seams, and strong zippers, making them more reliable in adverse conditions.
  • Standard Canvas Tent: Standard canvas tents can provide protection in various weather conditions. They are not as reliable as heavy-duty outdoor tents in extreme situations and will require additional weatherproofing measures.

Stability:

  • Heavy-Duty Canvas Tent: The reinforced structure and heavier materials contribute to greater stability, making heavy-duty, sturdy tents more resistant to gusty winds and adverse weather conditions.
  • Standard Canvas Tent: Standard canvas tents can be stable. However, they cannot offer the same level of stability as heavy-duty tents in challenging weather conditions.

Intended Use:

  • Heavy-Duty Canvas Tent: Ideal for long-term camping, hunting, heavy-duty winter tents, and situations where durability and weather resistance are critical. A heavy-duty camping tent is often favored by hunters, professional guides, those who camp in rugged terrains, and individuals who want a long-lasting, dependable tent.
  • Standard Canvas Tent: Suited for recreational camping in milder conditions where the emphasis is more on comfort than durability.

Choosing between a heavy-duty canvas tent and a standard canvas tent depends on your specific needs and the camping conditions you expect to encounter. If you plan to camp in challenging environments, possible unexpected snow storms, cold weather, or for an extended period, the Wilderness heavy-duty tent is a better option. Or, if you want a longer-lasting and more durable tent, the Wilderness heavy-duty canvas tent is a good option.

IS THE WILDERNESS A HEAVY-DUTY WATERPROOF TENT?

Yes. Canvas is naturally water repellent. Adding marine-grade water treatment to our Wilderness canvas provides another barrier to water. However, there are thousands of needle holes in all tents. When canvas becomes wet, it will swell up and should close the needle holes. That being said, I strongly recommend a tent tarp/fly to cover the roof because all the needle holes may not swell, and there could be a small leak. A tent with the tarp/fly will guarantee you have a waterproof, heavy-duty tent. — Rich, Owner.

The Wilderness is also a great heavy-duty outdoor tent for winter camping. Heavy-duty winter tents are required, especially for those who like to get off the grid in the middle of nowhere. A solid, reliable, sturdy tent is required.

IS THE WILDERNESS A HEAVY-DUTY CAMPING TENT OR A HEAVY-DUTY CANVAS TENT?

The Wilderness is both. Some individuals refer to the Wilderness as a heavy-duty camping tent. Others call it a heavy-duty canvas tent. However you want to describe the Wilderness, it is a very well-built and sturdy tent.

HOW CAN WALL TENT SHOP OFFER WILDERNESS HEAVY-DUTY TENTS FOR SALE SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER THAN COMPETITORS?

We have our canvas heavy-duty tents made 500 at a time. Other companies usually make their canvas heavy tent after a customer orders. Basically, our low prices are a result of the economy of scale. Additionally, my approach is to sell more tents for less. — Rich, Owner.

CAN THE WILDERNESS TENT BE USED AS A HEAVY-DUTY STORAGE TENT?

Yes. If a person plans on keeping a heavy-duty storage tent up during the winter, extra rafters are required for snow loads. If snow is possible, a minimum of rafters every 2 feet is required, just like a house. Then there is no guarantee a heavy-duty storage tent will survive heavy snow loads. It is recommended to remove snow daily and not let water or ice build up along the roof sidewall trough. Some customers also use the Wilderness as a heavy-duty work tent. These tents are taken to the job location.

DO YOU OFFER BIG CAMPING TENTS FOR SALE?

Yes, we do offer large camping tents at Wall Tent Shop. Our largest sizes are 16x20 and 16x24, with options to add rooms. Our heavy-duty canvas tents are offered in these larger sizes. We also have these sizes available with our Wilderness Camping Hunting Tents, Glamping Tents, and Hot Tents. Additionally, we have 18x23 Outfitter Tents.

DOES WALL TENT SHOP SELL HEAVY-DUTY METAL TENT STAKES?

We have 18" steel stakes for the eave guy ropes and 12" stakes for the side walls. Heavy-duty outdoor tents require big steel stakes. Do not use fiberglass or small, thin metal stakes on your expensive, big, heavy-duty camping tent. Your big tent is a big sail that will fly away in windy conditions. — Rich, Owner.

6 Star Immersive Read
Format: Audiobook
5 Stars (+1 with the audio for 6 stars) immersive read. Synopsis: After a brush with death and the loss of her father, Silla Nordvig has fled to the Road of Bones. A perilous journey north to safety and freedom. But the Road of Bones is a dangerous place filled with man, monster, and monsters who are men alike. After a second encounter that should have killed her, Silla decided to hide in a wagon bound North. A wagon owned by the notorious Bloodaxe Crew, a band of mercenaries on their own mission. Will she make it to Kopa in the North, to freedom and safety, or will she be hunted down by what travels the Road of Bones with her? Review: This is an INCREDIBLE read. The book is amazing and the audio made it legendary. All hail Islay Jacobs, a single narrator that put on a full cast performance! A fantastic Viking based Romantasy set in a world where magic users, Geldra, are despised, warriors fight monsters for honor and coin, and few are truly safe. An epic adventure, sizzling romance, hidden secrets, corrupted power (with quotas), unparalleled world building, found family, and not enough books out yet! There are so many good twists in this story, some caught me completely off guard which is impressive. I am normally quick with plot points and while I did pick up on several, a few had my jaw on the floor. Each character was richly crafted, the story driven by their strengths, needs, desires, fears, and flaws. I can see why so much of the world has been drawn to this story. I’m late to the party, but I can’t wait to continue in this world.

Road of Bones was just what I needed!!!
Format: Kindle
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 from me! The Road of Bones Silla Nordvig is running for her life from the Queen’s assassin and the King’s Claws (The Klaernar) but she doesn’t know why. She and her father were attacked by warriors on the road to home where he was killed, he admitted he wasn’t her true father, but that’s about all he could say before he died in her arms. Now, Silla has joined the Bloodaxe Crew, trying to make her way north on the Road of Bones to safety. The Road of Bones by Demi Winters is a Romantasy for those who absolutely love some romance with their fantasy. It’s Vikings and warriors at their finest. I felt the book was a little bit of a slow start, although there WAS action from the first chapter. But as soon as Silla realized she had to run for her life, the action was non stop. The plot was so well done, the story just built upon itself, and we learned more and more about Silla as her memories returned and her assassin got closer. As we discovered more about Silla, we learned more about the Bloodaxe Crew. Both Silla and the Bloodaxe Crew (each member) have such great back stories. Silla is such a well fleshed out character. We see her as a simple kitchen maid who has little self-esteem, but longs for the freedom to be herself, and we grow with her into a woman that knows herself and is ready for just about anything. She goes through so much on her journey on the Road of Bones and we are there with her for every minute. We get to see her fall in love, and we see her when she goes through betrayal. The way she reacts internally shows just how much she grew throughout her journey. The supporting characters, Jonas, Ilias, Hekla, and Rey were all extremely important to Silla’s story in his or her own way, and made the book all that much more rich and layered. Jonas seemed to have become enthralled with Silla, but things happen there that cause serious trauma. Hekla is a great friend to Silla and watching that relationship flourish was simply a joy, and Silla was able to come into her own as a warrior through Hekla’s tutelage (with Rey’s help). And, Rey, we can never forget about Rey…he was terrifying to Silla in the beginning, but somewhere he turns into a pillar of strength for her and I, for one, cannot wait to see what happens with that relationship. In the end, I consider Road of Bones to be a work of art. If you are looking for a Viking Romantasy that is fun, a little dark, and absolutely heartbreaking, this should be your next read.

I'm done
Format: Kindle
I survived. I made it through the book! This is a very slow book. Like... incredibly slow. I get that it's world building, but there also needs to be a sense that this world is worth caring about. The good side is that the author has lovely writing. And the audio book reader is fantastic. But the story itself is paced incredibly slowly and without the depth needed to care about the characters or world. I fell asleep a few times with the beautiful reader and lovely words... telling a story I just wasn't interested in The downside is that Silla is one of the most annoying main characters. She is weak and naive, with essentially no backstory. She's traveled all over with her father but apparently cooking and bread are her only skills. No worldliness. No experience with men or, well friends at all. Yet on the flip side she's able to learn fighting skills in a few weeks and starts outright flirting quite detailed within a few days. So is she a naive weak maiden or a hidden temptress warrior? No idea. Not sure she knows either. The other character backstories are also quite shallow. Like a few lines were written and that's all that needs to be said. But...it is lovely writing. I bought the 2nd book at the same time that I bought the first. I honestly have no desire to read the 2nd but curiosity has me wondering if it actually gets to storytelling.

Wolves in disguise, magic, and political intrigue!
Format: Audiobook
📖 The Road of Bones by Demi Winters Rating: ⭐⭐⭐¾ (3.75/5) This book had me at "let them think us lambs, when truly, we are wolves." The Road of Bones delivers on atmosphere and world-building, though I was initially drawn in by promises of fantasy romance with a strong female lead. What I got instead was a first book that's laying serious groundwork - heavy on political intrigue and lighter on the romance than I expected. Silla Nordvig's journey along the thousand-mile Road of Bones is genuinely compelling. Fleeing after her father's murder with the queen's assassins on her tail, she's constantly testing her limits. The Viking-inspired setting feels fresh, and the magic system stands out as something I haven't seen before. When the Wolf tells her, "Careful, Sunshine. The sharp part bites," I couldn't help but smile at their developing dynamic. The pacing occasionally stumbles, but the character development keeps things moving. Silla's transformation from hunted to hunter unfolds beautifully against the backdrop of political machinations. The emotional moments hit hard, especially as she discovers her own strength in a world determined to break her. For a first book in a series, it establishes a solid foundation, though I wish the romance elements weren't quite so slow-burn. If you're looking for immediate romantic payoff, you might be disappointed, but if you enjoy watching characters and worlds unfold with patience, you'll find plenty to love here. 📦 What to Expect ✨ Epic Fantasy 💖 Slow Burn Romance 🔥 Grumpy/Sunshine Dynamic 🤯 Complex Politics & Power Struggles 💔 Deep Emotional Growth 🦴 Magical Beasts or Sentient Magic ⚔️ A Lead Who Fights for More Than Survival 📚 Book Tags Keywords: Dark Fantasy, Magic, Romance, Political Intrigue, Found Family, Survival, War Tropes: Grumpy/Sunshine, Enemies to Reluctant Allies, Found Family, Mentor/Protegé, Slow Burn, Power Couple Triggers: Slavery, Violence, War Themes, Grooming (discussed), Sexual Assault (mentioned, not shown), Emotional Abuse, PTSD 🎯 Final Thoughts If you're in it for the long haul and appreciate a fantasy that takes its time building something meaningful, The Road of Bones is worth the journey. Just know you're signing up for a series that's just beginning to show its teeth.

One of the best reading experiences I’ve ever had
Format: Audiobook
This was truly AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!! In every possible way. - the setting. I loved the steampunk/gaslamp setting with trains, overcast weather, and mafia vibes - the magic. I still don’t entirely understand the magic system and descendants as much and it took awhile for me to get my footing in that department- and I am intrigued beyond measure, though it in no way lessened my enjoyment of the story. I just really wish I had a better grasp of it. - the plot itself. Beautiful. The tropes were troping in the absolute best way. Every single thing that happened I was like YES MORE!!! - the writing. I found myself grinning ear to ear uncontrollably during my entire read through and full on choking on my gasps, again, like the entire read through. And I read this too at times when I was in an awful mood so the way this book was an INSTANT pick me up really speaks to how well this was written. I was having the absolute best time, non stop. - the characters. The best part oh my gosh. Camilla is SUCH a badass. Her and Nico are supposed to be low 20s and I gotta tell you they read more like 30s from how capable and mature they are (not that that age bracket is incapable or immature, just comparing them to other characters written in that age range). She is the type of cool as heck character that everyone would be cos-playing as and if it was a kid movie, every single girl would dress as her for Halloween. She’s that awesome. Nico is top freaking tier. I gotta say his hairstyle is my undoing and with the addition of the metal arm- before I even started reading the book I was in love with him. And he was EVEN BETTER than my lofty expectations. This man. Perfect in every single way. Every. Single. Way. If I start now I won’t stop so I’m just gonna leave it at that. Camilla and Nico are power couple of the century though and the way they interacted was the most toe-curling/squealing/kicking your feet banter I’ve read in a while. PLUS the way they fell for each other was a gem. I was falling in love with their relationship right along with them. - a shout out to the side characters too. Aramis, Gideon, Aunt Fran, Esme, Luther, Adler [honestly just insert all the supporting cast they were freaking phenomenal] brought so much life and personality to the story and helped round out Nico and Camilla. I really really really would absolutely adore if Adler got some more spotlight time in the future because he and Aramis are up there with “let’s give these side characters their own spinoffs”. Also, the villains were great too. I love a great villain in a story and sometimes I don’t think they get highlighted as much in books as in movies or TV that I hear of. If it wasn’t obvious already- this was even greater than a 5 star read. This was perfection- in quality and in vibes- and it was one of the most enjoyable reading experiences I have ever had and I’m not throwing that around lightly. I have scenes from this book playing in my mind unbidden on repeat and I know this world has so much more to be explored. I will read anything Alexis L Menard puts out in the future
