Goggs prefer the open ocean and often form schools near the surface, where they may associate with floating debris or structures. Bigeye Scad primarily feeds on plankton and small fish, employing a filter-feeding behavior, swimming with their mouths open to capture tiny prey organisms. The size of Bigeye Scad can vary, with individuals typically measuring between 8 to 12 inches (20 to 30 centimeters) in length. Goggs are prized as bait due to their abundance in many warm-water regions, their active and visible behavior near the water's surface, and their suitability for attracting larger predatory fish. Anglers frequently use Bigeye Scad as live bait for a variety of game fish, including species like tuna, marlin, sailfish, and other pelagic predators. Their shiny and active presence in the water can be highly enticing to these larger fish, making them a popular choice among fishermen who will pay as much as $10 per live bait during fishing tournament season. In terms of conservation, Bigeye Scad is generally considered a species of least concern.
