These blooms are 3-dimensional with layers of rich-hued sepals. They look delicate and detailed, but Kokonoe is no pushover. It's a resilient come-again plant, so if you cut it down after its first flowering, it'll grow new for a second show. That means you'll have both early- and late-summer flowers to dress up your landscape. And with that many blooms, you might as well grab a few to enjoy around the home, clematis are surprisingly strong cut flowers, and the exciting flower form of Kokonoe will be a special treat in the vase. As it is just hardy down to 5?, this is a great one for container gardening in cooler regions, where you can bring it in when the weather gets chilly. Put a trellis or tuteur in the pot for it to climb up, keeping the vine close and the flowers in the spotlight.
