Cleistocactus Aureispina, also known as the "Golden Rat Tail Cactus," is a rare and truly spectacular species prized for its breathtaking golden spines and elegant trailing stems. Perfect for both seasoned collectors and those looking to add something unique to their indoor plant selection, this cactus is hard to find, making it a must-have for any serious plant enthusiast.

These stunning plants come in a manageable size of W14cm x H30cm, making them ideal for hanging baskets or statement pieces in modern indoor spaces. Selected for their quality and size, these Cleistocactus Aureispina plants are the best example of this remarkable species available.

Native Habitat and Growth:

In its natural environment, the Cleistocactus Aureispina thrives in the high-altitude regions of South America, particularly Bolivia and Argentina, where it grows on rocky outcrops. This cactus is adapted to tough conditions, surviving with minimal water while basking in ample sunlight. Unlike the Monkey Tail Cactus (Hildenwintera Colademononis), which has softer spines and a more silvery appearance, the Cleistocactus Aureispina stands out with its striking golden-yellow spines that glisten in the sunlight.

Its stems can reach impressive lengths, cascading beautifully, creating a mesmerising display. The golden hue and refined structure of the plant make it a favourite for those seeking a sophisticated addition to their home.

Styling at Home:

There are numerous ways to showcase Cleistocactus Aureispina’s beauty in your home:

  • Hanging Baskets: Perfect for hanging planters, its long, trailing stems cascade elegantly, creating a bold, golden waterfall effect.
  • Contemporary Planters: Pair this cactus with modern ceramic or porcelain pots to accentuate its architectural form and vibrant colour.
  • Shelf Displays: Place your Cleistocactus on a shelf, allowing its long, golden stems to drape down, adding a touch of desert-inspired charm to your décor.
  • Succulent Arrangements: Combine with other cacti and succulents in a shallow dish or desert-themed container to create a miniature landscape that brings the outdoors inside.
  • Minimalist Design: The plant’s bright golden spines make it an eye-catching centrepiece in a minimalist space, especially when paired with neutral tones.

Care Requirements:

The Cleistocactus Aureispina is relatively easy to care for, but like all cacti, it benefits from the right balance of light, water, and warmth. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Light: Provide bright, indirect light. This cactus thrives in sunny conditions but can tolerate some direct sunlight. Avoid prolonged exposure to harsh midday sun, which may scorch its delicate spines.
  • Watering: Water sparingly. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. During the growing season (spring and summer), water more frequently but ensure the soil is fully dry before watering again. In autumn and winter, reduce watering to mimic its natural dormancy period.
  • Temperature: Ideal temperatures range from 18°C to 26°C, though it can tolerate cooler temperatures down to 10°C in winter.
  • Feeding: Use a balanced, water-soluble cactus fertiliser diluted to half-strength once a month during the growing season.
  • Repotting: Repot every 2-3 years in well-draining cactus soil to accommodate its growing roots and refresh the soil's nutrients.

Why Choose Cleistocactus Aureispina?

The Cleistocactus Aureispina isn’t just another cactus; it's a striking and elegant plant that adds a unique flair to any home or plant collection. Its rare availability makes it even more special, and its golden spines offer a radiant contrast to more commonly seen green or silver-toned succulents.

Whether you're looking to create a dramatic hanging display or complement a minimalist design, Cleistocactus Aureispina’s shimmering golden spines will elevate your indoor garden to new heights.

Great toy. Definitely worth it.
Pattern Name: Classic Squeaky Tug, Pattern Name: Classic Squeaky Tug
This is a great toy. I bought this for my dachshund, and it's still going strong after 2.5 years. The string part came off after a few months, but that's fine. This is always her go-to toy.

Perfect so far!
Pattern Name: Classic Squeaky Tug
My dog has a habit of tearing up toys in just a few minutes, so far, this toy has lasted a few days, the rope is already showing signs of wear. I wish there was a way to attach a new rope when this one goes... She is a mid-sized dog with a LOT of energy, and she's very destructive, digging, chewing on things she's not supposed to, etc. This helps with that, she can play with it for a long time, we don't have to always 'check' to see if she is tearing something up. She loves grabbing it by the rope and swinging it around the sides of her head, it doesn't hurt her, and she LOVES this toy. Out of ALL of the toys that we have bought her, and that she loved, THIS ONE has been top dog to her. We love watching her play with it, it also wears her out and she'll then take a nap, which is always good. Oh yeah, the size if PERFECT for a mid-sized to a large dog, I'm not sure about any smaller dogs. She can squeak the squeaker on it fine too, but not at first, she had to 'find out' how to do it on her own. As far as chewing it into little pieces like one person has said, I can't attest to that, and I hope that is not the case. I will return if she does end up chewing it into pieces, because she in known far and wide for that! :)

Large adult aggressive chewer? No. Puppy? Yes
Pattern Name: Classic Squeaky Tug
My large adult dog who is an aggressive chewer got this toy in pieces within minutes, BUT this is a great toy for a lighter touched dog. When I got my newest addition (Malinois mix puppy. Pls thoughts and prayers for me), this toy came to mind because she loves chewing and she’s only 11 weeks old! She needed an interesting toy that is sturdy and won’t hurt her teeth or gums, but is still interesting (the rope piece and the squeaker). She’s not nearly as rough of a chewer as my older guy YET. But when she gets bigger, she will more than likely destroy this. She is almost 20lbs at 11 weeks right now, so I will update if she does destroy it. Long story short: Not good for large aggressive chewers, good for aggressive chewers on the smaller side (maybe 15-30lbs)
